Family Mediation – Resolving family conflicts and disputes
In addition to post-divorce conflict, mediation can help families deal with those difficult issues that everyone knows need to be discussed, but are at a loss as to know how to start the conversation. Mediation is also a useful tool to help avoid conflict in families facing important decisions in which there are many stakeholders, especially when some live far away. Some of the situations in mediation can be helpful are:
- Talking with elderly or ill family members about a more appropriate living situation;
- Coordinating caregiver responsibilities among adult children;
- Conduct brainstorming sessions as a means to finding solutions for various issues;
- Facilitating family discussions concerning the estate of deceased family members; and
- Helping families improve communication skills.
