Family Mediation

Is your family facing a dilemma and everyone seems to have an opinion?  Are you divorced and arguing with your former spouse about parenting?  Mediation can help you.

In a broad sense, it is mediation used to help resolve disputes in families.  More specifically, it is used to help families dealing with many kinds of issues, such as, but not limited to:

  • Separation agreements, parenting plans, support payments for never married couples;
  • Post-divorce mediation to update parenting plans, child and spousal support as the children grow and their needs and circumstances change;
  • Elder care issues involving the roles and responsibilities for family members for the care of older relatives;
  • Helping family members learn techniques to keep conversations from becoming adversarial;
  • Giving each person the opportunity to be heard;
  • Avoiding costly and adversarial post-divorce or estate litigation;
  • Helping family members work together to brainstorm possible solutions to the issues they face;
  • Focusing on problem solving, not reliving the past.

Can we use mediation if we had a litigated divorce?

Absolutely!  Many couples go through a traditional litigated divorce and become very disappointed with the combative and public environment of the court and wish that they had done things differently.  If you would like to update those portions of your separation agreement that are in need of modification but want to avoid another expensive and draining experience in court, contact us to set up an appointment for a free half hour consultation.

My ex-spouse is suing me for contempt.
Does this have to go to court?

Come in and meet with us.  We will send your former spouse an invitation to mediate.  There is no guarantee that he/she will choose to participate in mediation, but it is worth the effort. Mediation is less expensive, less time consuming, and far less contentious than battling it out in court.
